We have also lost pea plants to the hungry snail? and radishes to the wind blowing the shade cloth around. Patchy germination with some seeds.

Keeping the birds from the berries

Our strawberries are flowering and one even has a tinge of red. Who's going to be the first to eat that one? You better be quick!

On Monday we put some netting over the strawberries. Adam was Chief Driller, and he quickly became a pro with the electric drill - drilling the netting between the wooden stakes. Thanks for your help Adam. Fingers crossed we'll keep those birds out.

Something's been eating our beans

Who's been scoffing the bean seedlings? We had about 20 plants but some creature has been having a grand feast and left us with a bunch of bare stumps. We need to hunt that snail down - and do 'you know what' to it.

Luckily we managed to save a few and plant these out (even if they were a bit holey) and with the super helpful helpers Garath, Jackson and Carlie-anne we set another batch to germinate.

The team also had another crack at sowing carrots as the last lot didn't germinate. We hope you'll get a taste before you head off to your new school.

Keep up the great work and don't forget to give the bed a little water if this rain stops for a few days.

Paua plant out their plot

On Monday Paua got their garden bed under control. With the stirling effort from Adam, Josh, Toby, and Sam we ripped out all of the mint, fennel and weeds and planted two courgettes (one yellow and one green), and sowed some radish seed at either end.

We even had a little room left over, so we snuck in some snow peas, which hopefully will be big and tall, and almost harvested by the time the courgettes take over - yum.

Adam and Sam bundled up the mint for the kids and parents to take it home afterschool. Hopefully they managed to throw some on their spuds or made some mint sauce.
